Unlike other “chain of command” structured firms, career advancement at Urban Systems is based on performance, not position. That means our people, not our structure, control how quickly and in what direction our careers develop. We have no rules around who can or can’t lead a project or who is allowed to have front-line client contact.  At the end of the day, those who demonstrate competence and ability are given increased responsibilities. We believe in giving people as much responsibility as they demonstrate they are capable of handling.

 

Through multi-disciplinary teams, our people are exposed to a wide range of client projects and practice networks. Unlike some companies that encourage employees to “stick with what you know” Urban Systems’ philosophy is “go to where you’ll grow.”  Because we operate in seven locations throughout British Columbia and Alberta, our people are able to move to the location and work with clients where they will have the best opportunity to develop their skills and contribute to the success of company.

 

We are intentional about growing leaders. People with leadership potential, regardless of their years of experience or technical training, are recognized and supported at Urban Systems. We use project opportunities, mentoring and coaching, performance management processes and formal leadership training to develop skills, build knowledge, and eventually transfer ownership to the next generation.
